Training & Credentials

What are your current credentials & individual experiences with doula care & labor support?

I am a certifying birth doula with toLabor.

Do you have any current plans for additional training?

I am pursuing childbirth education certification through CAPPA.

Do you provide breastfeeding support & what is your basic theory of breastfeeding?

I can help my clients get breastfeeding off to a good start.  I am interested in helping partners to feel involved.  I can screen for problems and refer as necessary.

Breast is (by FAR) best! But that doesn’t mean that breastfeeding is easy for everyone. I am there to encourage and support, and to help catch early and troubleshoot any problems that may arise.

Do you typically provide postpartum support to your clients?

As a birth doula, I will stay with the parent(s) immediately following the birth until they are settled.  I provide one follow-up postpartum visit and can help address issues & concerns or make referrals then. I am a Certified Postpartum Doula (DONA), and in that role I can offer assistance with breastfeeding, recovery from childbirth, sibling & partner adjustment, emotional issues, and basic household assistance.

If yes to the previous question; for how long & what do you feel are your strong points in this area?

As a postpartum doula, I am an expert in normal adjustment during the postpartum period.  My strengths are in helping families settle in and find their “groove,” whatever that may mean for a particular family—breastfeeding assistance, listening, household help, etc.  I help screen for problems and make appropriate referrals as necessary.

Fees & Payment Plans

What is your typical fee schedule for attending births?

I am currently providing my birth doula services on a volunteer basis as I work to complete my certification requirements.

Not at this time

$25/hr ($100 deposit goes toward last 4 hours of service)

Do you send a detailed bill to your couples & when is their payment due?

I provide a detailed invoice.  For postpartum support, payment is due during my last shift of the week.

Do you charge additional mileage when you have to travel outside of your hometown?

No

Do you charge "cost" for labor supplies used during a birth?

No

Will you provide a sliding fee for lower income couples?

Yes; I am committed to providing doula support to all women who need or want one

Are you open to trading or bartering for services

Possibly

Miscellaneous Information

How many times do you typically meet with couples prior to attending their birth?

2

Do you provide a "whole house labor rehearsal" for your couples?

Yes

Do you guarantee backup services in case you are unable to attend due to illness or sudden conflicts?

If not, would you encourage your couple to find a 2nd choice doula for backup?

Yes

If it felt "right" to you & your client, would you ever consider working as a team with another beginning doula to help her gain experience?

Yes

Is it ok for other doulas to contact you to help secure their own reliable backup?

Yes

How do you honestly feel about attending a birth for a couple you have never met either as a last minute doula or backup doula?

In labor, we’ll get to know each other very quickly! I’m there to help my clients feel comfortable.

How do you describe yourself religiously?

My personal beliefs have nothing to do with the services I offer.

How does your religion effect how you work with clients?

Religion does not affect my work. I respect and can accommodate a variety of cultural and religious traditions.

Do you provide a doula contract for detailed expectations of your care to be signed by all parties?

Yes

Have you ever worked with same sex couples?

I value the opportunity to work with ALL types of families. I have yet to work with same-sex or adopting families, but I would love to. I really see the value of postpartum support in those situations.
